Betta's like to hide, they also tend to hold very still for long amounts of time when there isn't a plant, so that is actually a normal Betta thing. Movement attracts predators, and since their solitary fish, they don't really want to draw too much attention to...

Just use very hot water. You can boil it if you want to. Don't use bleach, soap or anything else. You can get commercial tank cleaner at the fish store if you want, that would probably be safe. Just follow the directions. Usually, however, hot water will do the trick.

Do you mean tickle on his stomach as he is falling off the plane or tickle on his stomach whe he hits the ground and spladders everywhere? In any case sure he would get a tickle on his stomach and some other things too.

Sounds like they could be eating the slime or algae off the tubing. My goldfish do this.

You can heat the ,8 gallon bowl in a furnace - get rid of it. Use the 10 gallon tank for your Betta. He will need a heater and a filter to live a happy life. I would not even keep a pet rock in a .8 gallon bowl it's just to cruel.
