I think going from a water base to oil base would be fine, going from oil to water might create some problems since the thinner would leave an oily residue on the bristles.

dish washer soap is a dispersant oil will float on it it will not mix don't experiment unless you work at NASSA OR YOU MAY REACH THE MOON UNWILLINGLY

You painted a door with latex water based paint the door was painted with oil based paint and you tried to paint it with water! Won't work! Unless you put like 4 coats of paint
