  1. Try typing it as (x^8)^(1/4) Although, why you would want to waste time typing that in, when you could just do it in your head, I have no idea... To get the fourth root of x^8, you just divide the exponent by 4, so the answer is x^2.

  7. 2^x +2^(2x) =2^(3x) ---> 2^(x)=u u^3-u^2-u=0 u = (1+ sqrt5)/2=1.618 2^x = 1.618 --->x = 0.6942
