You can use Microsoft Streets & Trips 2008 to chart multiple routes to/from the same locations I also believe on Mapquest , you are able to manually redirect your route. Good luck!

i usually use mapquest . although, i've noticed that sometimes they give really confusing directions. it's not the best.

Yes, they both are. Mapquest is for finding destinations and getting directions, Google Maps is just a website for looking around really.
