This is not normal. I encourage you to tell somebody close to you what is happening and how you are feeling, and definitely consider therapy or medical treatment. You are never alone. : )

I see no reason why that should be mental illness. It is social behavior. It has been said that anti-social behavior is closer to mental illness.
