An advantage would be that you can travel to Colombia from the US without a lot of hassle. The disadvantage is that if you're a male under the age of 35 you may find yourself conscripted into the Colombian military the next time you go to visit your abuela.

It's not any easier (or any harder) than it is for people from any other country. There are a number of visa classes and either you are eligible for one or you're not. They are not based on country of origin.
