The Circuit City in my area has already closed and they had a sale up to 75% off -- but by then you have equipment with missing parts, cords disappearing etc.

The only loss you would report is selling those shares at a loss. You can't simply claim bankrupt shares as losses because you haven't lost anything.

Actually, the cities going bankrupt will be able to restructure their bad debts and abolish or greatly reduce many entitlements. You can look forward to a rush of California cities following suit.
