Call the rental company & ask. I know it can go on her card but I think the rental would need to be in her name with you listed as additional driver. Not sure if she must be in the vehicle but make sure you either have insurance or buy theirs to cover you in case of an accident.

You should only need one $1000 card. Use the card for groceries and gas. Go online and pay the balance in advance, about once per week or every ten days. My credit score is as high as it can possibly go, but I have been doing the above for decades.
