Great question... I know, it can be very confusing... Actually the "hull" really is not descriptive of either the length or width of the boat... The hull of a boat is "the floaty part"... or the bottom (mostly all in the water) part of the boat...

Because nitrogen forms a diatomic molecule that is relatively inert because the two atoms share electrons that complete the valence structure of the atoms. And, as a gas, mixing the molecules is much easier than the solid phosphorus.
